Aalborg

Aalborg

12th of January, 2015

Axel

Aalborg is a city located in Nothern Denmark, in Jutland to be precise.
Its the third city in terms of population in Denmark, with 205,809 souls at the beginning of 2014 (the two first cities are Copenhahagen
and Aarhus).
There are of course an hospital, several universities, an airport, theatres, museums....and every stuff that could be fill the "modern confort catefory.

Aalborg's climate is not as cold as I could think : the temperature stays around 0°C during winter, because the city is near the ocean.
The great thing is there is snow anyway. It must be really nice to see : we don't use to see that in France, and that's the goal when you travel, right?!

From the economic point of view, Aalborg is a pretty powerfull city : there used to be a lot of manufacturies there, but they are now closed. They were gradually replaced by knowlegged-based and green-energy sector (ecology makes really part of Danish culture, if we forget the fact that they don't use atomic energy at all, energy is mostly product by coal plants...), and also by communication and technologies industries.
It also is interessting to notice that the port's activity is imprtant in Aalborg because of the Arctic Bussiness : 60% of the product of arctic shipping is treated in Aalborg.
Obviously I don't forget classical activities like tourism, but I think you're already aware of that, it would be useless to knock you out with a lot of numbers and graphics!

To conclude, I would tell the thing I most like in the city (that could change because I don't know the town yet) is it's motto : "Seize the world". That's very close to my own vision of life!

Jomfru Ane Gade

Hi everyone !

Jomfru Ane Gade is probably the most famous street in Aalborg. Located in the city centre, it’s an unavoidable place in Aalborg.

On both sides of the street, there are a lot of bars and restaurants. Each bar has a really different ambiance or theme. You can find clubs with electro music or country music. Every Saturday nights, this street is overloaded by people. Every bar is open until 4 or 5 a.m sometimes. It’s the best way to meet people from any nationality : Danish but also Romanian, Hungarian, Lithuanian, and Bulgarian...

Every Thursday,  beer pong is organized for free in a bar called Heidi’s Bar. It’s a place where all Aalborg’s student meet new relatives.

First day in Aalborg

27th of January, 2015

Axel

Hey ! Hi everyone, one more post today, we're a very protuctive team !!

Just a small article about Aalborg : we visited the city today . It's fine, people are very nice. There are a lot of old buildings, with typical designs from nothern europe. But the city is also really modern : we found a lot of street art spots in down town, and modern architecture too !
There are not big differences with other cities in nothern Europe, but you can found in the center a free outdoor rink, that is such a fun detail : welcome in the north !!!!

Furthermore, we saw a lot of skateboarding spots in the city, but no one riding on it ! We were desapointed, mainly Martin and I ! I think here street culture is important, and people are more tolerant about how you look, because we met a lot of tatooed and pierced people, mainly young of course but also 4O years old people or even grand mas !!

Well to conclued, Aalborg is a very nice city , with old or modern buldings, nice people and...such a cold weather !
We all are very happy to be ther !
See you as soon as possible with another article.

How to travel in Aalborg ?

The best ways to travel in Aalborg are take the bus or a bike. There are lots of buses in Aalborg and the bus journey allows crossing the entire city easily. The buses spend between 5:00 am and 00:30 am on weekdays and Sunday, and they spend 24h/24 on Saturday.

There are lots of different kinds of subscription, you can take a card for one year, for 3 months or for one month. We took a monthly subscription, it’s a card where there are your address, your name and a picture about you, and every month you have to go to the bus terminal shop to buy another monthly pass.

Also, lots of people travel by bike because Aalborg is one of the most popular bike cities in Europe. There are bicycle path everywhere in the city, we can see lots of bike in front of shop, bar and restaurant because it’s the most popular way to travel. From April to November you can borrow a bike from the city, just you have to pay 20 DKR (2.68 Euros) to take the bike and when you return it to the city you get back your money. You can buy one in the abundant bike shop in the center or in Facebook on the page “Aalborg market” for a reasonable price, between 100DKR and 700DKR (10 and 100 Euros).

Lots of young people prefer buy a bike or take the bus because, here, the car cost is very expansive (guarantee and petrol).  For us, it’s bus to go to school and we are looking for a bike to move in the city.

See you soon! Martin

Aalborg Gigantium

Hi everyone !

A few days ago, with Axel and another French guy, that we met at a party, Louis, we went to the Gigantium.

It is a sports complex a little away from the city centre of Aalborg. There are rooms for different sports like body building, gymnastics...

There is also a huge skating rink for hockey games. Aalborg has a very good Hockey team called the “Aalborg Pirates”. Some friends were able to go see a game of this team, they are really awesome!

Unfortunately, we could not attend, we had some problems with our French credits cards that the website did not accept, and it was unthinkable to have a place at the last moment without booking on the internet...

When no matches are planned, this room is used for meetings or various community gatherings.

This complex also has a swimming pool and wellness area. For 70 kroner (barely 10 euros), we had access to the different equipment, sauna, Jacuzzi, hammam, swimming pool, diving boards...

We could stay there as long as we wanted.

This space is really very friendly and pleasant. This afternoon was both very fun and relaxing. We hope to return soon with other friends to share this experience with them and have fun once again.

Again, it is a place where I advise you to make a stop if you have the opportunity to visit Aalborg.

See you ;)

Claire
