Christiania

Hi folks !!!! Something awesome happened this week ! The weather was so great, we actually could go out in the streets wearing a shirt and pants only !!! I know you had good weather in France too, but here …. Oh my God that feeling was really awesome ! Well, basically that article is not about the weather !! I will today tell you my feeling about Christiania. I don't know if you knew it, but there is a city inside the city of Copenhagen. This is Christiania. In the 70's, (1971 to be precise) the army gave up an establishment right in the center of the city. So a hippie community took the place, and they still live here since.... They use to revendicate their status, even if the city loses its freedom in 2012 and now belongs back to Copenhagen (after a lot of negotiations, and the juridic battle is still running). Here this place is known as the « Free City »: only 9 rules like « no violence » « no guns or weapons ». In the city, you can admire beautiful houses, and meet a lot of artists coming here just because they like the atmosphere. This atmosphere is really special, and I actually don't think you can find it in any other place. You can feel the freedom in the air, and meet a lot of people coming from all around the world. Cristiania is basically the perfect place to rest or chill out, and keep discovering new things. Unhappily there is another side of the city, mainly because of the drugs. The hippies still own the city and they are known to use a lot of psychotropic substances. They are proud of there freedom, and drugs are not really forbidden. Well, back in the days, even heroin was legal. But then the people living here realized it was really dangerous, so they forbid all hard drugs (you can now realize how and why this place is amazing : they regulate by their selves the city). However, cannabis are still authorized in Christiania and that can actually be a real problem because it is illegal in Denmark, so people come to Christiania to smoke, and because of that there are a lot of dealers, who are actually members of gangs ! That's why it can sometimes really destroy the « good vibes » of Christiania This is still an amazing place you have definitely to visit if you to Copenhagen! I really like that place, even if the « Green Light District » (the « street » where dealers are selling) is kinda weird. We walked through the street during almost the whole afternoon, discovering houses, gardens.... I'm a bit disappointed because we could not really meet people living there, but I think they just get upset because of the tourists. Imagine if 1000 people came to visit your garden every single day !!! Well, I hope this post helped you to understand how the city works. If you want to, you can find a lot of information on the internet about it of course. I am sorry i can not really add a lot of pictures because actually dealers don't like cameras. I mean, not at all. They just break it if you try to have a photo of them taken!!!!! That's why I did not bring my camera there.
